Devil May Cry 4 Special Edition

[PC - Workaround] Disable Motion Blur
Thanks to Sethir's thread here, I did some testing and figured out which variable needs to be changed in order to disable motion blur: uMotionBlurFilter.

So, to recap the steps needed to disable motion blur:
1. Make a backup copy of your game executable in case something goes wrong
2. Download and install a hex editor if you don't already have one. HxD is a good and free.
3. Open DevilMayCry4SpecialEdition.exe in your hex editor
4. Use the Ctrl+F search function to locate the following string: uMotionBlurFilter
5. Highlight the 'u' in uMotionBlurFilter with your mouse, then replace it with an x. Do not try to delete it with backspace and type the x in afterward, because it may break.
6. The string should now read 'xMotionBlurFilter'. Save the file, and close the program.

And don't forget Kingz' thread here either, which started all this modding with a tutorial on how to disable Depth of Field.

Enjoy!

Keep up the good work!

Guess only thing we need to find out now is whether the bloom can also be turned off like this, since that is a popular request also.

Thanks! And yeah, I had a crack at bloom too but no luck yet. I'll list the variables I tried unsuccesfully here, just in case someone else decides to give it a go in the meantime:

mpRTBloom
uBloomFilter
uMultiBloomFilter
uBokehFilter

Edit: By the way, as an aside I just noticed that the 'uDOF' variable name is actually 'uDOFFilter'; it just happens to get cut off by HxD's narrow text display.

Double Edit Combo: So I did some testing, and the bloom setup in SE is actually identical to the Vanilla release of the game.

Man, even with this all I get is like 33-34 FPS up to 40 FPS, I can run League at almost max graphic settings (I can't do that, at least not yet) and still end up without around 130 FPS. I guess my question is, anything else I can do? :P

I mean, 40 FPS is definitely enough to do well in, but in words of Vergil, I need more power!

If you're already running at minimum settings with the executable hacks to disable post effects, there's unfortunately nothing else I can suggest.
Thank you for this guide, it worked very well!
Just one question: Does this mess up some cutscenes like how the DOF edit does?

I'm afraid I don't know, been too busy hex editing all evening to test.
With any luck someone else will able to chime in with an answer.

Doesnt mess the cutscenes up. And thats for this thread my game looks so much better without that stupid motion blur and it runs faster :ebonyivory:

Can confirm, without the vaseline filter (dof) and motion blur the gameplay and cutscenes look much better (the dof fix doesn't cause any issue whatsoever to me).
Just ran the benchmark and it seems motion blur alone tanked my average fps by 10-20 fps

We really shouldn't be doing the sh!t that Capcom should have included in the first place -_- Anywh*re, thanks for the fix m89, I can finally play without blur everywhere.

Thanks for confirming. I've turned off the Motion Blur so far which makes the game run great. Might try turning off the DoF later.

What are your specs? I'm playing on a laptop and the only time I dip below 60 FPS is transitioning to and from cutscenes.
You should combine this and the dof edit into a single guide and post it in the guides section where it won't be buried under a mountain of threads.
Bump for visibility.
