Computer runs SPG2 (and some other games) on integrated graphics instead of nVidia
Hi to all! Last few days it happened to me that SPG2 (and Hitman Absolution) started on integrated graphic card (Intel HDxx) instead of main graphic card (nVidia GeForce GTX 870m).

Well it's not a game bug or anything, it's just stupid computer that didn't realise SPG2 looks so awesome that it needs better graphic card. :D

Solution for that is below. I'm not sure about ATI cards, but I think it's the same thing, you just need to find it in options.

So how to force Starpoint Gemini 2 to use nVidia GPU instead of integrated card:

1. Go to the NVIDIA Control Panel by right clicking on your desk top and clicking on "NVIDIA Control Panel".

2. In the default screen that pops up (it should be "manage 3D settings", and the "Program Settings" tab should be automatically selected), under "1. Select a program to customize:" hit the "Add" button.

3. From here, you will either find SPG2 on the list or navigate to the folder where its located. For me, it is C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Starpoint Gemini.

4. Select the folder and find the starpointgemini2.exe for that game. Select it and hit open.

5. Then, under "2. Select the preferred graphics processor for this program:" open the drop-down menu and select "High-performance NVIDIA processor".

6. Finally, hit apply in the far bottom right corner, and you should be good to go!

Mods can move it to Technical Support forum if needed.

Didn't know that. First time I'm happy with my mobo that won't support onboard graphics...
Great post zzokalj!

I just hope it will solve Jacklyn's problem so that we can pin it as a solution...

It's not just SPG2 or Hitman that have that problem. I read on forums that many people have problems with games starting on integrated graphics.

Some even don't add specific game, but whole Steam games directory. If you want, you can add that just to be sure in the future.

Instead of just adding SPG2 folder, go one step back and add complete C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\ folder to be sure.

I did both, just in case. :)

I do hope too. She already has 30 or so hours in the game and the last update did something with something, I really do hope your quick fix resolves the problem. I have never ran into such a thing because I have an Asus P7P55D which has no monitor out.

Same thing here, after last update laptop started it on Intel graphics... Don't know why, but I'm glad I managed to solve it pretty fast and I don't need to mention that devs helped me with this.

I'm using ASUS ROG G750J.

Jacklyn confirmed that game now runs smoothly so that was the problem. We can pin this if anyone else experience this problem.

This is VERY useful. Thanks zzokalj! I'll pin it for future reference if anyone else encounters the same issue.

Thanks again guys!

I don't see "Select the preferred graphics processor for this program" anywhere.

Which graphic card do you have?

The nVidia control panel should look like this...

You can also disable integrated graphics in your bios.
This completely eliminates the problem, and will also free up a little of your cpu that was being reserved needlessly.

Oh, didn't think about that. Nice info.

Thanks Broken! :)

No problem I had a similar issue when I first got my 2600k a couple of years ago, some games would default to the integrated even though I had a gtx580 at the time, was very annoying. I was able to find two specific settings in the bios on my asrock mobo that completely disabled all the integrated graphics features and the problem went away after that.

That's a nice workaround, that Intel HD is useless anyway. :)

seems as this issue is only related to laptops
Zenoslaf Sep 15, 2014 @ 2:38am
Mostly, yes, because desktops, especially gaming ones, usually don't have motherboards with onboard graphics. Laptop have them to save energy and power, using low level card for low leve tasks, saving the beast just for games. :)
