This expansion has its ups and downs, but the cons heavily outweighed the fun times I had playing this mod.
I love the Half-Life series to death, and this is the only one that I have disliked.
The levels are obscenely difficult, and instead of making it fun to beat such a challenge, they design the enemies to be cheap and annoying to deal with. Don't even get me started on the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ pit drones.
I played through the campaign in both hard and easy difficulty, and there was absolutely no difference.

The Vortigaunts are placed in ways to ambush the player, but the problem is that they typically damage you when there is nothing you can do about it, since they are either placed in hard-to-kill spots, or you have no ammunition left. There is also a severe lack in medkits during these sections, requiring sv_cheats 1 if you save in a bad spot.

I also had to noclip out of certain floors or walls, because the game is so ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ bad that it lets you get stuck in them.

The final boss was underwhelming as well, and violated the basic rule of the Half-Life series: show a way that you can beat your enemies.
I was stuck on it for a while because HOW THE ♥♥♥♥ AM I SUPPOSED TO KNOW TO SHOOT THE ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ PURPLE BALL?
Throughout the early days of the Half-Life series, balls of energy have been shown to teleport, so I thought that I would have to go in the ball. The game didn't let me.
Then I realized you could shoot out the eyeballs of the alien. Thought that if you shot them out enough times, it would kill it. After about 10 times of shooting out the eyeballs with no change, I realized this wasn't it.

The weapons are also unbalanced. Some guns are weaker than a peashooter, while others are stupidly good. In the end, it doesn't even matter, since you won't have enough ammo to fire these guns in the first place.

Also, who decided to make the Black Ops tanks? You cannot kill them with a FULL SMG MAGAZINE. ON THE EASIEST DIFFICULTY.

That being said, this mod had its moments. During the times when it wasn't obscenely difficult, the campaign was loads of fun to play through. I only recommend this game to the die-hard Half-Life fans, since the only reason I slogged through the frustrating parts of the campaign was to say that I had beaten the whole Half-Life series.

I might play through it another time and edit my review, but for now, I would rather play Hunt Down the Freeman. (Kidding, of course. This expansion wasn't that bad, but it hasn't aged well.)

Fun as ♥♥♥♥, and when I finish, I will probably play it four more times.
EDIT: My only complaint is that the game runs like ♥♥♥♥ (even with a 1080) but I am hopeful that these issues will subside with the passage of time.

Have I actually already used this for 245 hours? ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, VR is more addicting than I thought.

But is it nearly 200 GB in size like MW2019?
Does it run like ♥♥♥♥ like MW2019?
Does it false ban people like MW2019?
Does it have the world's dumbest monkeys writing the code like MW2019?
Does it have ♥♥♥♥ gameplay like MW2019?
Does it have microtransactions and battle passes like MW2019, needing you to pay for content instead of playing the game?

One answer to all of these questions:
No.

Great game, better than the new remaster. That's right, ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, it's better. Not only can it actually ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ run (and no, its not my computer, I have good specs) but you can actually see and shoot people. Even without the comparison, this game is great. Not a must-have, since it's not as popular as the new games, but is absolutely worth the money.

The game itself is pretty fun, to say the least.
Honestly, the only thing I kind of hate is that you have to pay.

Thanks, Ubisoft. Making me pay to unlock all of the operators. Good thing I bought the Standard edition, otherwise I would be even more ♥♥♥♥♥♥ than the players who bought the starter edition.
Game's great, ♥♥♥♥♥♥ pay-to-unlock service isn't.
Oh and also, the community is a level 5 ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ biohazard. Don't expect warm, friendly hugs unless you play with a 5-man.

TL;DR: Great game, ♥♥♥♥♥♥ pay-to-unlock some operators, beyond ♥♥♥♥♥♥ community. It's almost comparable to PUBG's community, and that game's community will radiate your skin off. I recommend buying, but prepare your ass for some BS.

Honestly, after playing so many First Person Shooters and repetitive games, this was one of the biggest breath of fresh airs I have ever taken. This game is SOOOOO much fun, I would play it for hours of end, ON SINGLEPLAYER. If i ever get bored of it, I head over to one of the game's sequels, like MK1 and others. I SERIOUSLY recommend this game.
