Steam announcements are no longer useful as they no longer notify members. Discord's platform is undeniably superior in terms of functionality, so we're going to be using it going forward.

It seems like we are cool with Discord now. I am fairly confident we won't get randomly nuked again. Knock on wood.

This announcement (New developer & my future with this community) previously read:

I'm excited to announce that we're adding another developer, code_gs, to our team! He is an excellent developer and a true legend of Garry's Mod - even having worked at Facepunch for a time - and I'm honored to have him working to build our community!

A few months ago we also added Winterphoenix96, a veteran of the Cinema gamemode and close personal friend of mine, to our core development team. And of course, we also have Pyroteknik and Brian working on a big map update which will get done eventually (source engine limits & burnout have been holding it up)

I'd also like to make a statement about my personal future with this server. Since the very beginning, I have always been the primary developer and administrator, doing the vast majority of the work personally. For several years, I've poured my creative energy into this project and have always been the one which all responsibility ultimately falls on.

As time has gone on, the server has evolved from being a weird little hobby of mine to something that I truly care about. It's caused me to become much more perfectionistic with my work, especially recently, but this has taken a toll on me personally.

Going forward, at least for a while, I'll be stepping back from the server. I'm not quitting, but I won't be as closely involved with administration or development, at least for a while. We've built a great team that I trust will keep this server going - please direct any server-related concerns to them in the future and not to me personally.

I've come to realize that the amount of energy I have been putting into this has been limiting me in other ways in my life. Distancing myself from this community will give me far more energy to invest in my real-life relationships and passions. As much as I value Swamp and want it to succeed, I also very much need to balance out my life.

For at least the next few months, I'll be pursuing my true passion: DUBSTEP

The end of an era

The events of the past year have led me to reflect on how we run the server and the effect that our policies have on the general quality of people who are attracted to our community.

I'm announcing a major change to the rules. This was not an easy decision to make, and I'm well aware that some of you will be disappointed by this.

Going forward, racial slurs and other hate speech will no longer be allowed. I do not want to see any more N slurs or swastika sprays in our community. We’ll still allow occasional edgy jokes, but by and large this sort of offensive-for-the-sake-of-it conduct is not going to be tolerated any longer.

I don’t intend to turn the server into a hypersensitive safe space, and I feel that this change won’t be an issue to the majority of our users. Some of you, however, will have to learn to let go of your “racist edgelord” identity if you still care to be a part of our community.

This just isn't who we are. It's immature, it's not right, and most importantly, it’s not conducive to building a decent community. We just have to be better.
