Second Step Verification
Hello Steam Universe, I have a question that has been puzziling me for awhile now, why doesn't Steam have second step verification? If there are reasons why, please respond senesibly. Recently, a friend of mine, aka Killer Logic on Steam, wiped his hard drive to improve performace, but did not know his recovery email information, which means he was locked out of his Steam account, losing all of his games. He is currently locked out. After helping him with the recovery process, to no avail, he is still locked out. The recovery email process, Steam Tickets, or posting in forums did not help. I understand that part of the problem is that my friend didn't back up his email information, but that shouldn't be the end of it. He has invested his time, money, effort, and love into the games he bought and would like to play them again. This is where second step verification comes into play. If I have spent my hard earned money on my games and something happens, I should be able to recover my account, even if i do not know of my recovery email information. There needs to be another way to get my games back. Whether that verification be a mobile number, an email address, or DNA, it needs to be present. If you would like to help my friend out, his new Steam name is killer_logic. He needs it! Thanks for reading.

You just have to prove ownership which you can already do in lots of ways on Steam

Without that information there is no difference between a hijacker and 'your friend'

I'm also slightly ambivalent to 'i have spent lots of money on steam and deserve support despite apparently not caring about hat money enough to bother knowing what my email is'. Especially considering email is used for STeamGuard authentciation....

Thanks, I'll alert my friend.

I will notify him of this. I doubt he has proof since his Steam reciepts get mailed to his email, which he cannot access.

There is only one thing for HIM to do -- contact Steam support. The whole question of how to recover the account is completely pointless to discuss here, as nobody here can decide anything. Steam support will (should) figure out a way to get the account back.

I have agree on the stance that using a throwaway EMail on a system like Steam is extremely stupid. If I had to guess, he probably doesn't remember the answer to the secret question either, since he probably just typed something like "wethioerzteruighnkldfv"...

I will tell him this.
