Have a second player be you gunner!
Pilot plays using Dualshock 4.
Gunner plays using... The PS Vita!
When crossplatform comes, maybe having a 'pairing' works as you can jump into a match with someone and play as a gunner for their bombers or attackers, thus increasing the lethalness of turrets!
To balance this to traditional WT game, maybe offer a gamemode and only for historic battles when bombers are involved, etc.
So it enables over 30 players in a match, just has extra players being the gunners or even bombers in coordinates before the game starts (like squads, but for a single bomber!).
Increasing a bomber's lethalness means that to balance, there are more fighters than bombers, especially when 'dual seating' planes are used for attackers and fighters to control guns, bombs, and rockets.
Maybe to make it easier to use, is to utilize it in a more 'scenario' based gamemode...
Historic "Warfare" mode and/or Full Real "Warfare", where players don't bring their aircrafts, but brings their 'crew' to jump into AI planes to take over them (like co-op missions where you can jump between 4 planes, except in a PvP environment). If a crew goes down, he's locked out. The mode is mainly for Crew XP benefits so very little credit gain.
You should be thankful. New patch is horrid!
