Fix for "Fatal error - Steam must be running to play this game"

Title says it all. Just a quick fix to the common problem.

For "cheaters" -or modders

It's simple - Delete all changes you've made for the game.

That should do it for you.

For non-"cheaters"/modders

• Restart Steam
  
  
• If you are a steam beta participator, opt out (the most common solution)
  *settings > account > Steam participation
  
  
• If you are not a steam beta participator, opt in (the most common solution)
  *settings > account > Steam participation
  
  
• Verify integrity of your Payday 2 game cache
  *Library > select Payday 2 > properties > local files > verify integrity of game cache
  
  
• Delete your mods (also the most common solution)
  
  
• Reinstall Payday 2 (delete the whole Payday 2 steam folder and then verify integrity of game cache)
  
  
• For AMD graphics users:
  Right click on desktop > configure switchable graphics > in All Applications select: Add Applications > find the Payday 2 game directory > open the payday2_win32_release.exe > in graphics setting column choose high performance.
  
  
• Uninstall Comodo Antivirus if you're using it
  
  
• Flush your DNS[www.wikihow.com]
  
  
• Reinstall Steam
  
  
• Run Steam while playing the game?

One of these should work for anyone having this problem. If not, then I have no idea. If both your Payday 2 game and the Steam app are like they should be (unmodded/completely reinstalled) and it doesn't work, then your best bet - besides Google - is to try Steam support or email/message Overkill's staff.

who says cheating is modding?
i just installed this game and it said but restarted and it worked also like the one person said.
idk what kind of mods can be on here that isnt to cheat but im sure theres texture mods.
i guess if restarting dont work then yea do this.

Mods can't give this error, only if you were trying to crack the game which is illegal in some countries
