The diminutive GameCube weighs in at just 3 pounds, measuring 4.0 by 6.0 by 6.0 inches (HWD). A tremendous amount of processing power sits within this tiny frame, however. Powered by an IBM 485-MHz PowerPC CPU (named Gecko), a custom ATI 3-D graphics chipset and 40MB of total system memory, the GameCube has muscle to spare. In fact, Nintendo claims that the GameCube can render between 6 and 12 million polygons per second.

The system also provides all of the basic necessities you would expect from a cutting-edge game system. Four controller ports and a dedicated reset button are positive points. Two expansion slots on the bottom of the unit allow for future online connectivity—one slot can house a broadband adapter and the other will work with a standard analog modem. Game data is stored on proprietary memory cards (bought separately) that fit into two slots on the front of the machine.

Nintendo's all-star cast of combatants is back in Super Smash Bros. Melee, along with a new batch of brawlers ready to tear it up. The sequel to Super Smash Bros. keeps the same basic premise: Characters duke it out in interactive environments, using special attacks and various items to knock each other into the abyss. Some new defensive techniques add an even deeper level of complexity to the combat. In addition to traditional battle royale matches, players can select all-new ways to play like Coin mode and Tournament mode.

Have to say best all around game ever! My friend Wes purchsed Smash Bros the day it hit shelves and we have been playing it ever since! Over two years nad still playing the same game every time we meet. Sounds lame? Well its not being that hte game has incredible visuals, great character models and the most intoxicating fighting system this side of your grandmother! I man handle Samus quite well and have been itching to play somebody new for two years. If Nintendo were to make a sequel to this incredible game, I would require an online multiplayer mode and a whole lotta food and water because I woldn't be going anywhere for a couple a centuries. But this game has lasted this long and we're not tiring of it yet! Rock on Smash, rock on!
