In my opinion, Chronicles of Myrtana: Archolos is good enough to be called an official prequel to the Gothic series and nobody should be upset about it.

Therefore, if you haven't played it yet, I can only recommend it, as the scale of this mod is unbelieveable and so aware of the original, that you won't notice anything, that couldn't be described as canon. The quality is on PB's level.
