DOOM
Zargas May 13, 2016 @ 12:28pm
Randomly crashing to desktop
I have no idea why, i am just randomly booted back to desktop.
Nothing really tells me why, no errors or messages of any kind.

Every time Doom syncs up to Steam and i start again.
Then randomly i get kicked out.

Loading levels, while playing, reading. I've been unable to make it happen on command.

Anyone else had this problem?

Why are so many having issues? This game runs at 1080p, 60FPS, on High preset on an i3 + GTX 960 4GB just fine. Thats one of co-workers machines he built for his daughter (an i5 + more RAM is on the way); but we're like; hmm don't even need an i5; game runs great with current hardware...

How far have you gotten? I had no issues at all until my second playthrough. I fixed it, but still.

Well this profile does not reflect most of my playing; we test alot at my work for hardware and such; and we have another Steam we have at the workplace for this; cause the Boss will get games and put on that Steam, so we have a larger collection to use and not have to use our own accounts when game testing at work.

Anyways at work we were able to beat the game more than 10 times already without any issues.

So those getting stuck at certain places in the game; we are thinking this is a corrupted save-game-file. But hard to be sure on that. All I can suggest is backup your saves, turn off Steam Cloud Sync for this game, and try a new game and see how that does.

We test on both Win7 and 10; both Pro 64bit. That is all we use.

Same here, everything runs fine. No FPS hitches or glitches.

Running totally smooth then BAM ~+*CTD~+* instantly. Nice.

Disable the Steam Overlay in Doom's properties and see how that works out.

where yo
Bad 💀 Motha May 25, 2016 @ 8:20pm
Steam Library > DOOM > right click > Properties

Untick the two boxes for Overlay and Game Theatre
Then click OK, now launch game and see if that helps.

This issue is being caused by an anti-pirating software hardcoded into the game called "Denuvo". This software's only function is see whether or not you're running an 'illegal' copy of the game you're playing and will shut it down automatically if it detects that you indeed are.

Id absolutely wrecked it's implementation in DOOM and for many people, it thinks that you are running an 'illegal' copy during ANY state of the game running. Loading a map, playing the game SP or MP, changing settings, anything. It just flat out terminates DOOM as a system process to keep from playing a game it doesn't think you paid for because it wasn't implemented to tell the difference properly. That is why you cannot find what the error causing this is in your system logs or get the usual notice of "crash" at all, this is why updating drivers does nothing, and this is also why no normal bugfixes are working.

The game itself is the problem. I feel there is absolutely NO way that Id didn't know about this prior to shipping the game. You couldn't not know while programming something like this. It's like driving a car into a tree you saw right in front of you you knew was there the entire time, but saying it was the car's fault because it wouldn't stop moving on it's own. I feel they were so rushed to deliver the game on time they said ♥♥♥♥ it and let it ship with a massive issue that has cost them thousands in refunds.

Denuvo is garbage and has literally ruined dozens of other titles during just beta roll outs, which is why so few games currently are actually using it. Most developers were smart enough to trash it after beta and use something equivalent that works properly, or develop their own, functional, proprietary copy-protect software. Doom is just one of a handful of shipped games that actually bothered to include this ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ in their programming. All the other titles are experiencing the EXACT same problem we're all having. A simple patch can't fix this at all. Id would have to just completely strip Denuvo's codes and algorithim out of the game entirely and send us all experiencing this issue a fresh redownload and reinstall with it completely removed.
this guy seems to know insider info lets trust him and also update gfwl and securom becuase thats better

If the anti-piracy engine thing is the reason for random CTD; it could be for people using certain Overlay Apps (other than Steam Overlay); it wouldn't be the first time OSD such as MSI Afterburner / RivaTuner / Fraps / DXStory got in the way of a game launching and/or running normally.

every idtech game craches with precisionx and afterburner we leanred this with idtech3-4 rage and doom3bfg before that we really didnt need to monitor our gpu teps and set custom fan curves because damnit if rage didnt super heat some 500series gpus

Yea well apparently people don't learn. U always hear of people having issues; then see it's cause they had Fraps or some crap in background.

Anyways, i'm using Afterburner + RivaTuner with all the OSD info; not an issue in this game. But Fraps and DXStory almost always have issues. People just need to stop using that crap.

But Afterburner; no OSD's are enabled by default; the features are there; but you have to turn all that on yourself.

Also encountered this (random CTD, no errors) a few times through the SP campaign (haven't tried MP though). Win10 64 bit, GTX 680 SLI (x2).

The only overlay I use is the Steam FPS counter, nothing else. I don't use RivaTuner, Afterburner, Fraps, Recording Software, Cheats or anything else when playing.

I'm using Windows 7 64bit. I'm not even able to get to the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ main Menu.

Can tell you for sure, if this isn't fixed within the next couple of days, I'm honestly not going to have a nice review, and in all honesty, I'm going to be refunding this crap.
